Two works on pedestals

Interactive Sculptures

Selected Works:

The Eye Mac (2001)

Talking Brush Strokes (2000)

Pumpkin (1999)

Random Brush Strokes (1999)

Interactive Story (1998)

Concept

To explore low technology as high art.  Each piece (except Interactive Story) has an element of randomness to it.

Method

These are sculptural works using the Macintosh SE.  The computers are painted.  I use HyperCard to write a program that runs on the computer.

Evolution

Fall of 1993 - I learned HyperCard as a programming language.

Sometime in the mid 90's - HyperCard all but disappeared due to the Merry XMas virus and poor marketing.

1998 - I found a Mac SE that someone had thrown out in the street.

1999 - Idea of Mac SE as a sculpture solidified in my mind.  I entered the piece into the Southern Exposure show in San Francisco and it was not accepted. The piece was entered into a student show at SFSU and was not accepted.

2000 - Talking Brush Strokes was shown at Artist's Television Access.  The Eye Mac (then called the "Artist's Eye") was shown at Muddy's in San Francisco.

2001 - The Eye Mac, now fully realized, was shown (until Sept. 22nd 2001) at Ylem's 20th Anniversary show.

December 2003/Janurary 2004 - work is displayed at Electrohype in Malmo Sweden and at Muddy Waters in San Francisco simultaneously. The piece is sold to the National Art Council of Sweden.
